Tahitensis Vanilla has a significantly different flavour to Bourbon Vanilla. It is sweeter, fruitier and has a combination of a cherry and liquorice or raisin like taste.
Gourmet Bourbon Vanilla Beans are bursting with flavour and offer two to three times the yield of most other types. Grown of the coast of Africa they are dark brown, plump and feel moist and sticky to touch. A white crystalline dust on the bean is a sign of freshness and flavour.
Tahiti produces only a small amount of the World's vanilla and it is for this reason that these Tahitian vanilla beans are substantially more expensive. However, you will get what you pay for and these beans are much plumper and have many more seeds per bean than many cheaper alternatives.
Vanilla Extract is taken from macerated vanilla beans which have bean soaked in alcohol for several months. Vanilla seeds are then added to the extract which has rich and fragrant vanilla tones.
Vanilla Powder is made by grinding dried vanilla beans. A small amount of Vanilla Powder provides a wonderful fragrance and taste.
Vanilla seeds are extracted from the vanilla bean and dried.
